Great Googly-Moogly: How the two Broncos end zones photo from Super Bowl 50 is going viral

As you may have noticed, the above tweet is generating a lot of buzz online today. I posted that three days ago. It was a photo I found here.

Late Thursday night and early Friday morning it was brought to my attention that the tweet above was getting a lot of retweets and likes. It also was being featured in articles by many major sites across the web. This story started circulating even though the supposed error was already fixed.

The Super Bowl 50 end zone snafu with two Broncos end zones is all the talk

A couple days ago I found and posted this picture.

I noted that it appears that they had started painting the Broncos end zone on the wrong side of the field before realizing the error.

Just today, my tweet generated some buzz and was used in some articles.

Check out the new spring training gear

Here are the galleries to the new caps and new jerseys.

Some of the caps from years past remain the same. Some caps will be different as you can see in the above tweet. You can go through the gallery to get a better look. Some old school logos like the Brewers and White Sox make a nice debut. The Marlins, Tigers are going to be a little loud and the Rays are just going with a sun burst. Some of these are not bad. The biggest surprise is the navy maple leaf for the Jays. Each cap has a location patch as well along with a sublimated league logo on the other side.

The jerseys are a whole different story. Each jersey will have a location patch and a sublimated spring training design in the back on the name and number. Some teams are just adopting an alternate jersey in their system. Some are adding new jerseys as well. So away with special uniforms just for spring. It’s mostly take an old template and just switch out the names and numbers and add a patch.

I think this is fine. It’s not so over the top. These changes are expect. It probably will hit me more when I see them in action. But with the massive overhaul in design by Majestic this year, this comes as no surprise.

Minnesota Twins are wearing some red

Starting with the cap, it’s a navy brim with a red crown and their current logo with the gold trim. I think something like for a Friday home game deal is cool. The cap itself isn’t bad either. It’s basically a throwback cap except fort the gold trim.

The jersey is a different story. I just don’t like red as a jersey color for them to wear. The trims are nice but the logo on the left side feels real incomplete. I thought this was a spring training jersey. Then I found out that they are using this exact template for their spring training jerseys. Minnesota has always been predominantly blue and this is just a little too much.

I don’t think it’s too bad in terms of the idea of it. But I wish they didn’t go this route. It’s just for the sake of just having another set.

Majestic is going FlexBase for the new MLB jerseys

I thought the old authentic MLB jerseys were on sale just because of the new logo. Apparently there is another change.

Check out this photo. Notice anything different? This new “FlexBase” authentic jersey has a side panel. And for those teams with pinstripes, you will get nothing and like it.

I get it. New technology and fabrics and all that jazz. But this looks pretty pathetic. Some teams with pinstripes will suffer from this new design. What a shame for teams like the Rockies, Phillies, Yankees, Mets, White Sox and Cubs.

Broncos get uniform superstitious for Super Bowl 50

The Broncos will be making their eighth Super Bowl appearance in team history. In those games they have worn three different jersey colors. Here are their records.

Orange: 0-4

White: 1-1

Blue: 1-0

The team just announced that despite being the designated home team, they will wear their all-white road look. I think they don’t want to wear the unlucky orange tops.

With this news, that means the Panthers are wearing their black tops. Those jerseys have been paired with silver or black pants in the past. Knowing that owner Jerry Richardson is a traditionalist, I expect this uniform matchup for the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl 50 with the Broncos and Panthers is going to be a good one

In the back of my mind, I keep thinking that the Panthers are so well-balanced that they will rout the Broncos in the Super Bowl. Cam Newton is playing at a level that is beyond anyone’s imagination. The running game is working well and the receivers, especially Greg Olsen, appear to be up to the challenge. Who can stop such an explosive offense? And pair that with the Panthers defense, they look like the top team.

I take a look at the Broncos and their offense is still figuring things out with Peyton Manning still not at his best. Will that be enough to win the game? I doubt it. But the Broncos defense looks so much stronger. The pass rush is phenomenal. I can’t shake the feeling that the Denver defense will overcome all the odds.

The mantra about defense winning championships is still true. And even though the Panthers’ offense looks so balanced, I can’t imagine how it will perform against the Broncos.

That’s what makes this a good one. It seems like the Panthers have everything going for them. But a good defense from Denver makes it so intriguing for me.

My predictions for today’s championship games in the NFL

Who’s going to the Super Bowl? Check out my predictions below.

They meet again.

NEW ENGLAND (2) VS DENVER (1)

Are you sick of this narrative? I hope not. This may be the last time we will see Tom Brady and Peyton Manning face each other in a game. The stakes are at the highest for these two once again and we could see another classic game.

Manning is still working his way back into football shape but appears to have gotten it back just in time. He didn’t look all too great last week but the defense and the running game kept the Broncos against the Steelers. But in order for the Broncos to have any change, the receivers cannot afford to have so many dropped passes. It will be on them ad the defense to give the Broncos a chance.

Brady seems to have a better offensive game plan working for him. Much like the Broncos, the receivers have to make the catches. Julian Edelman has to avoid the early yips to get the Patriots offense going. Without an established running attack, could we see a continuation of a committee or the Patriots trying to focus more on passing? I think the passing game will still be big and Rob Gronkowski will be in the middle of it all.

Houston Astros’ navy alternates are nice

I am so glad that the Astros are keeping their tequila sunrise side panels on these new alternates. They matched their old spring training jersey but I think the wordmark across the chest works better than just the logo on one side.

I also think that because this uniform doesn’t have a headspoon like the other jerseys, it works well. It doesn’t need to be there as it would take away too much from the side panel.

The caps are also a very nice touch. It isn’t a surprise that they went this route. They already have an all orange cap, an all navy cap and a navy cap with an orange brim. Now they’ve filled out the other possible option. It’s simple. It’s nice. It will work well with any uniform combination they wear. Good choice.

NHL’s decision on John Scott’s All-Star Game status was more to save PR face

This was the only way it could be. The NHL faced a disastrous PR nightmare with the John Scott thing. There had already been rumbling that the league asked him to decline the All-Star Game invitation despite the fans voting him in as captain. Then the trade to Montreal really made it seem like the NHL was going to let that trade make Scott ineligible.

Fortunately, the NHL did the right thing. I don’t know if they did it because they felt that it was the right thing to do or they did it because they wanted to avoid any backlash if they left Scott off the roster.

Either way, what we have is the NHL admitting that the game itself doesn’t matter. If the fan vote doesn’t have any value, then what’s the point of this game? It’s already a game that people don’t really watch and the NHL can’t afford to lose the one thing the fans care about.

The NHL did the right thing only because they had no other choice.
