The Simpsons did not predict the Seahawks and Broncos Super Bowl matchup

It’s a fun joke the show tweeted out. But people actually believe that it is true. Yes, in the 2005 episode “Bonfire of the Manatees,” Homer was watching a game between the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos. However, that is it. Nowhere in the episode did they predict that it was a Super Bowl. If you actually watch the episode, or read the script, they stated that the game was played at the Broncos’ home stadium. Also, Homer bet on another game later in the episode.

But people decided to run with it as if it was real.

Answer My Question, Commish!

Vernon’s take is a good one. Addressing issues like healthcare, concussions, college players getting some kind of financial compensation and more.

Giants introduce new “old school” Orange Friday jersey

New orange jersey.

The San Francisco Giants for the past several seasons have selected Friday home games to be the day where the team wears their orange alternate jerseys. They just unveiled a new orange jersey for their upcoming season.

This new orange jersey really is actually a modernized version of their 1978-82 jerseys. In fact, they’ve worn it as a throwback before.

A few obvious differences can be seen. The script features the dropshadow of gold along with the white trim. And instead of a collar piping, it’s a simple and boring headspoon (like the road jerseys) that runs down the front. The sleeve piping is similar to the home whites. The patch I don’t think works. It’s a nice idea, but an unnecessary one.

It is unconfirmed if their previous orange jerseys will be in use still or they have been retired. If this is the end of that jersey, then it was a brief four-year run for that jersey. But hey, merchandise sales will go up, right?

Happy new year, everybody!

Great jersey.

It’s the year of the horse! Cool stuff. I’m away from family so I won’t get to have a big dinner or get red envelopes. I’ll make the most of it.

In the meantime, can somebody get me this? It’s a great jersey that I would love to add to my collection.

The details:

This Hawaiian barnstorming team toured the mainland from 1912-1916, taking on college teams, black clubs, and semi-pro teams. The idea that the players attended the “Chinese University Of Hawaii” was a fiction created by the promotors, but the first Hawaiian club consisted of players of Chinese ancestry. Later squads also included native Hawaiian and other ethnicities.

MLB 2014 On-Field Clubhouse 39THIRTY postgame caps are out and they look like neon lights

New and unnecessary.

New and unnecessary.

Last year, MLB released these postgame caps. They were optional to wear during postgame interviews, but aesthetically they were just bad.

It appears that they have a new line for this year. Check out some of them that are already available for purchase.

It’s like they’re going with the all black look, much like the darkness of light with the logos lit up like oversized neon signs outside of a bar. Look at the Orioles cap. And now look at the Indians one.

This isn’t necessary but merchandising could rise because of it. And that’s why we introduce these things, right?

Dodgers add road alternate jersey to rotation

When the Dodgers play their four games in Australia to begin the year, they will be wearing the above road jersey. Their current road jersey reads “Los Angeles” on them but they have decided to add this version back into the mix.

This has been a constant with the team, alternating between city name and team name on their road jersey. This is a marketing grab and it really isn’t necessary. They should stick with one. But now they have both.

I always felt that if they were to change up their road set, they should at least bring back the white trim. It just looks so much better. Here’s to you, money grab.

New fashion style is upside down logos on caps?

I’ve always tried to be fashion forward when it comes to sports merchandising but this one is a little confusing. These “Hall of Fame” edition caps are everything you want in a throwback style cap. The colors are right. The logos are accurate. However, the logos are upside down.

I don’t know what the reasoning is for it and I don’t think it makes much sense. Is this a case of just finding a new way to sell something that is already there? Or is it another way of the company to present something new that could catch on?

What I can assure you is that someone will buy it and make it work. After all, the colors are still great and the throwback idea is still very popular. But upside down is hard to understand. Makes it look like a factory error. Maybe that’s what’s hot.

Joe Montana wants to milk out one last game out of Candlestick Park

I wasn’t sure how I wanted to react to this. On the one hand, Joe Montana deserves to be at some final event at Candlestick. But a flag football game?

It would have been nice if he was at the final NFL game there, but with this option, I suppose it will work out. The stadium isn’t going to be demolished yet, so getting one more event there isn’t a big issue. I wonder how they will assemble this and how fans can watch, if they want to watch.

What do you think?

Chicago Cubs’ new cap has a slightly different color

Along with the 100-year anniversary patch for Wrigley Field, the Cubs are changing the color of their caps. But it’s not a major change. In fact, it’s very minor and you probably wouldn’t even notice it unless someone told you about it.

The team will be wearing numerous throwbacks this year but a change in cap color is an interesting decision. It won’t mean that the Cubs are getting a major uniform overhaul, but something so minor is something I will keep an eye on going forward.

Some players like to wear old caps and I wonder how many will try to get the old caps onto the field with the new patch on.

Super Bowl XLIX logo for next year is pretty much what you expected

https://twitter.com/devilsfan525/status/428194336095096832

For 44 years, the Super Bowl logo has been a unique design annually. The design reflected the host city or the design was a perfect embodiment of the country. But since the 2010 season, the NFL has decided to go with a generic logo template.

As you can see, the Super Bowl logo for next season will be under that same design.

The following year is Super Bowl L, which might be a problem under this template. The L would stick out at the bottom and it won’t look good. Will the NFL go back to unique designs or stick with this? Only time will tell.
