Running the wrong way but the refs didn’t stop it

So it’s embarrassing to be running the wrong way (like Jim Marshall) and when I first saw this, I got angry at Towson for tackling him instead of letting him run and get a safety.

But apparently, the NCAA rule is that on a muffed punt, you can’t advance the ball (in any direction). The ball is dead at spot of recovery. (I did not know that.)

If that’s the rule, then why didn’t the referees blow the play dead once the ball was recovered?

There’s a lot of foolish going on here but Andre Parker’s wrong way run isn’t the worst of it. The fact that the officials let the play continue is just plain silly.

My adventure at Dodger Stadium for Vin Scully bobblehead night

If you have a Vin Scully bobblead, throw it to the sky!

I have not met one baseball fan that doesn’t appreciate what Vin Scully means to the game. So when I found out the Dodgers were going to have a bobblehead day for him, I bought tickets immediately. It was something I knew I had to be a part of.

I got to the stadium really early. So early that I had to park my car near the park and wait until 4:30 for the parking gates to open up. Luckily I got there the time I did because if I had gotten there let’s say a half hour later, I would have been somewhere behind these thousand or so people.

There was yelling and pushing because when the gates opened, people that were in the back of the line that were looped around, just cut into it. Security said they couldn’t do anything and there was a lot more pushing going on. But at least for me, I got my bobbleheads easily. Two to be exact!

But other than that, it was a great experience.

No Heroes of Mine

Speaking Plainly

We go through it routinely, this cycle. Whether through typically purposeful media hype or other more organic mechanisms, we inflate celebrities to the status of heroes. Then comes the inevitable, but somehow surprising fall of these faux heroes due to their completely predictable human failings.

Maybe the problem lies, not with those we’ve chosen to elevate, but with ourselves and our choices of heroes.

After all, what is it we think a hero is?

A hero is not someone who just does extraordinary feats. If that were true, every circus freak would be a hero. No, a hero is someone who does extraordinary feats: (1) while exposing themselves to risk (physical, emotional, to their reputations) or danger; and (2) doing so in order to benefit others. Examples might include, exploring previously undiscovered places, saving others in time of war, or teaching girls to read in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.

NFL Films’ ‘A Football Life’ may be Eddie DeBartolo’s last chance for Hall of Fame

Eddie D brought Hall of Famers to the 49ers. Now can he get there himself?

If you haven’t heard the news, NFL Films will bring back their popular “A Football Life” documentary series this fall and on October 24, they’re doing a feature on former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo, Jr.

This is a great thing as 49ers fans like myself have always been appreciative of Eddie D’s contribution to the team and his desire to win. The five Super Bowl titles under his watch is unmatched by any other owner in history.

But as I was reading the press release, it occurred to me that this might be the final opportunity for Eddie D’s name to hit the national spotlight for his chance to get into the Hall of Fame.

A flashback at the storylines of Kane with Pete Rose

As some of you know. I am a wrestling fan. I’m not the kind of guy that goes out and buys all the shirts, toys and make every effort to watch every week. But when I get the chance to, I like to tune in and watch.

This segment that they ran last night was comedic gold. It’s hard to explain some of it unless you know some of the past storylines with Kane, but it cracked me up that a character that is supposed to be evil and demented would be so open about it.

Plus, the fact that he mentioned Pete Rose after their numerous altercations (four in my count) in the past really was the icing on the cake. Well done, WWE. You took us back to a trip down memory lane and made me laugh once again.

I wish I was around SJSU for this pretty cool event

They never did this when I attended SJSU but it sounds like a cool thing to be a part of. SJSU doesn’t do many really cool things and even though this isn’t a groundbreaking event, it’s a nice thing for people who love SJSU.

Terrell Owens’ bad hands may have cost him his final chance at the NFL

Aside from the near overdose of drugs, the constant complaining to everybody and his child support issues, Owens has always prided himself in being a very in-shape, talented football player. He has Hall of Fame career numbers and after knee surgery, we wondered if he had anything left.

His time with the Seahawks ended today and some may wonder if that was the last opportunity he would ever have in the NFL. He was in shape and appeared to be in good spirits about this opportunity. But unfortunately, the Seahawks didn’t like what they saw and they got rid of him.

As I watched the preseason games this year, I realized that Owens had numerous opportunities to make an impression to the team. But I think that ultimately, his one weakness as a football player caught up to him. He just doesn’t have great hands.
