So it’s embarrassing to be running the wrong way (like Jim Marshall) and when I first saw this, I got angry at Towson for tackling him instead of letting him run and get a safety.
But apparently, the NCAA rule is that on a muffed punt, you can’t advance the ball (in any direction). The ball is dead at spot of recovery. (I did not know that.)
If that’s the rule, then why didn’t the referees blow the play dead once the ball was recovered?
There’s a lot of foolish going on here but Andre Parker’s wrong way run isn’t the worst of it. The fact that the officials let the play continue is just plain silly.
