Jim Harbaugh’s comments about never pursuing Peyton Manning is just so typical of him

Oh this story again? Yup.

I think I know San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh. I spent all of last season covering the team and was a part of every press conference the coach held with the media. His way with the media is a very unique one but to me, it all made sense. I’d say I believe I have a good grasp of what he’s all about.

Yes, he doesn’t like to talk about injuries or other players. In fact, he knew that if he limited the media access to the bare minimum, that would excel his work as a head coach. I didn’t agree with it, but I understood it.

So when Harbaugh brought up the topic of Peyton Manning (assuming he did this because of Jon Beason’s comments), it was Harbaugh being Harbaugh again. He made sure that the media had it all wrong and he was right.

Appreciating what the Spurs are doing as a team

Manu Ginobili has been playing some great basketball.

I remember back in 1999 during the shortened season watching the San Antonio Spurs play ball. Back then I was really enamored with the New York Knicks as they had some talented players like Allan Houston, Latrell Sprewell and Patrick Ewing. They were exciting to watch.

But when they ran into the Spurs in the Finals, I started to grow an appreciation for what the Spurs were starting. And since that 1999 season, I started notice how fundamentally sound this team was.

Their championship wins in 2003, 2005 and 2007 weren’t flashy but they sure showed the great power of their consistency.

In that 2005 season, the Spurs took the Pistons to Game 7 and I honestly think that might have been one of the best NBA Finals I had ever seen. Both teams were “boring” to the public eye. But for me, it was a series of great defense, smart offense.

Memorial Day gave a few MLB teams the opportunity to go throwback

Yesterday was Memorial Day and part of MLB’s new promotion, every team wore their new Stars & Stripes caps. These caps took the team’s current caps and added a camouflage touch to it. I think they’re OK but since all proceeds of sales of these caps go to charities helping war veterans, I’m totally fine with it.

Basically for these caps, it’s not a major change to the design unlike caps of the previous years.

But one unique thing about these caps is that since the camouflage design is only logo-based, teams with multiple caps had all their caps re-designed. For example, teams like the Indians have four different caps, meaning all four got the camouflage treatment.

And for some teams, that gave them an opportunity to go a little throwback with their caps on Monday.

Alex Smith, Patrick Willis, Jon Beason and that Twitter thing they’re using

If you’ve been living under a rock for the past few days, read up on this story first.

When I signed up for Twitter back in 2009 to help my coverage of the 49ers, I didn’t know exactly what I would be seeing on a daily basis. I frankly think that unless you’re in a business, media or someone that requires constant sending and receiving of information, Twitter is actually pretty pointless.

I just got Twitter in 2009 just to help myself keep track of other dealings and as more and more athletes decide to sign up on Twitter, the more and more I feel that they either use it right or totally wrong.

As in this case, I think it’s a case of right and wrong for Beason and Willis.

Vanderbilt executes a triple steal successfully

In all my years of watching baseball, I have never seen anything like this. With the bases loaded, a triple steal was called and it seems like the television crew new it was going to happen with cameras on all three runners.

Vanderbilt had six stolen bags in that inning and ended up winning the game 8-6 and advancing to the championship game.

I’m not sure I like this year’s MLB All-Star game jerseys

Photos of the All-Star game jerseys for this year’s midsummer classic have surfaced on the Internet and boy oh boy, I don’t know if dig it.

The side panels are fine but I don’t like the collar at all. It just looks so out of place. But at least the panels and collar will match the team’s pants, which is nice.

What’s really fascinating is that the jerseys will feature numerals with some very funky design. I don’t know how clear it will be when the players wear it but it screams of Nike to me.

I will give credit to the Royals for making sure that the jerseys reflect their colors well and the crown is a nice touch too. Maybe it won’t be so bad once I see them on the field. Or maybe it will be even worse. Who knows?

One year after Buster Posey’s injury: What have we learned?

A year ago on this date, Buster Posey was injured on a collision at the plate with Scott Cousins (see above video). The injury cost Posey the rest of the season and to this day, the team is very careful about overworking Posey too much back into baseball shape.

The aftermath of that injury was not a pretty sight. As for me, a non-Giants fan, I didn’t have a connection with the team so I didn’t feel enraged over the injury. From a baseball fan’s perspective, I just saw it as an unfortunate injury and nothing more than that.

But instead I had never heard a bigger amount of whining and complaining from an organization in my life. Somehow because Posey (the golden child) got hurt, the game of baseball should change just for him. I thought that the Giants handled it poorly.

We need Adam Morrison back

Just sign him because of his hair.

A couple days ago the Nets held a tryout and Adam Morrison was part of the crew of players there. After some time away from the NBA playing overseas, the former third overall pick showed up hoping to get one more chance at the NBA.

Some team has to sign him. The benches haven’t been the same without him. And most importantly, his new hair, goatee or whatever he’s trying to look like is a much needed facelift the NBA needs.

We need Adam Morrison back in our NBA lives.

All I can think about is the Arizona Rattlers of the AFL.

Per CBSSports.com, and UA’s athletic director, Arizona will be rocking copper domes “on a limited basis” next year. Here’s a poorly-done photoshop job from someone:

I’m not crazy about the look personally, but it could open the door up for some special uniforms— which unlike some purists, I enjoy.

Last night was bad goaltending and irony for Martin Brodeur

Martin Brodeur is a stellar goaltender and is on his way to the Hall of Fame. Henrik Lundqvist is having an MVP-type year and will win the Vezina. Yet last night’s performance by both of them was not pretty.

Lundqvist gave up three early first period goals and Brodeur just let easy goals slip by him.

As you can see in the above video, he couldn’t play the puck because it was outside the trapezoid — an NHL rule that was produced courtesy of Brodeur’s aggressive forechecking style. The irony of it all.

Maybe both goalies were just tired and had a bad game. But at least for Lundqvist, he can’t afford another one. Devils are up 3-2 and can stamp their ticket to the Cup Finals with one more win.
